Our attention was recently drawn to "Gloves In A Bottle", a lotion that can be used as a barrier cream to protect the hands in situations that might otherwise call for wearing protective gloves.

The manufacturer claims that the lotion binds with the skin forming an invisible coating that protects the hands against cracking and drying in cold weather, or when they are immersed in water, or when working with wet or messy materials; fish for example.

It is claimed to reduce the transfer of sweat and other natural chemicals from the skin to whatever is being handled, and retain natural moisture.		 Once the lotion has dried, it cannot be removed by normal washing, but abrades na­tural­ly as the skin exfoliates. It doesn't offer any protection from cuts or abrasion.

Washing the hands will remove any surface dirt, leaving the coating in place. Normal lifetime is about four hours.

Gloves In A Bottle is available at pharmacies, hardware sto­res, garden centres, and other specialty shops. An 8oz (225 ml) bottle will yield about 120 applications.
